Incentive Grant supports new Higher Education students

2026-08-14

Automatic financial support is aimed at first-time higher education entrants receiving the 1st tier of family allowance.

The Institute for Higher Education (IES) provides the Incentive Grant, a social support measure aimed at students entering higher education for the first time in the 2026/2027 academic year. This mechanism aims to ensure fair conditions in access to degree programmes, reducing financial barriers associated with entering academia.

The support consists of a single payment corresponding to twice the value of the Social Support Index (IAS) in force at the beginning of the academic year. Allocation is automatic for students who, cumulatively, enrol in higher education for the first time and were beneficiaries of the 1st tier of child benefit as of 31 May of the previous academic year.

The student community and prospective applicants to the Instituto Superior Miguel Torga (ISMT) can consult additional details and verify their information on the official IES platform, available at https://www.dges.gov.pt/bolsaincentivo.
