Last Tuesday, 7 January 2025, Dinis Alves gave his last lecture at the Miguel Torga Higher Institute (ISMT), ending a remarkable 21-year career as a lecturer at the institution.

To mark this momentous occasion, Sofia Figueiredo, Sérgio Soares, Dina Margato and Ricardo Almeida organised a surprise in the classroom, a private and intimate moment between colleagues who have known each other for years, surprising the teacher with a symbolic gift: a terracotta sculpture representing Dinis Alves himself, created by ‘Aldeia da Terra’. The piece, conceived on the basis of photographs shared by Sérgio Soares, Manuel Correia and Jorge Fiel, reflects key moments in the teacher's career, with details such as his glasses, his camera and a Benfica banner.

This surprise moment was also attended by his daughter Mimi and colleague Maria de Fátima Toscano, who realised the event and wanted to give Dinis Alves a hug.

Dinis Alves' connection to ISMT extended beyond the classroom, involving collaborations and projects that made a mark on the academic community. He was also a mentor for various projects, such as “Escolinha dos Media”, which brought students and teachers together in creative activities. His involvement with the academic and cultural community was a constant.

Dinis Alves' career was always guided by a passion for sharing, as recalled by a dedication from a former student who emphasised his “immense thirst for sharing”. Over the years, this spirit was present both in class and on social media, where he documented his journeys and reflections.

The Miguel Torga Higher Institute would like to thank Professor Dinis Alves for his 21 years of dedication to teaching, for his unique contribution to the education of generations of students and for the spirit of sharing and inspiration that has always characterised his work.
