The ceremony marked the opening of classes and the start of a new dynamic for the city centre, which will now welcome hundreds of members of the student community, teaching staff, and institute employees on a daily basis.

The Instituto Superior Miguel Torga (ISMT) held the Solemn Opening Session of Classes, a moment that coincided with the inauguration of the institution's new facilities, located in Baixa de Coimbra. The event featured speeches by Manuel Castelo Branco, President of ISMT, Helena Teodósio, President of the Intermunicipal Community of the Coimbra Region (CIM-RC), Ana Abrunhosa, President of the Coimbra City Council, and Gonçalo Batista, President of the ISMT Students' Union.

The opening of this new space represents a structural phase for both the institution and the urban fabric. Every weekday, over 800 people, including ISMT students, teaching staff, researchers, and administrative personnel, will utilize these facilities. This regular influx has the direct effect of introducing a new flow of individuals into the centre of Coimbra, providing increased daily activity to the Baixa.

In addition to regular academic activities, the new facilities will operate as a hub for cultural dynamics and knowledge sharing. Colloquiums, conferences, and other initiatives are scheduled to take place during the evenings and at weekends. This strategy seeks to ensure the intersection of civic life and academia, attracting the general public and consolidating the Institute's commitment to the local surroundings.
