Journalist Paulo Marques analysed the role of journalism in structuring contemporary social perception during an event open to the academic community.
The Instituto Superior Miguel Torga held a lecture on 24 March dedicated to the technical and sociological analysis of news production processes. The event, titled "News production as a process of social construction of reality", aimed to discuss the mechanisms that transform daily facts into media narratives.
The session featured a presentation by Paulo Marques, a journalist from Diário As Beiras, who shared his professional experience on how editorial criteria and production routines directly influence the representation of facts. During the discussion, the focus remained on the responsibility of journalism as an essential mediator between events and public interpretation, highlighting the impact of informative choices on the collective view of the world.
This initiative was organised by the Media Representations curricular unit, part of the Degree in Journalism at ISMT, under the coordination of docentes Manuel Menezes and Dina Margato. Through such events, the institution reinforces its commitment to bridging the gap between the academic learning environment and the professional practices and demands of the communication sector.
