The Instituto Superior Miguel Torga brought together experts to discuss the history of social movements, environmental justice, and the challenges of Social Work in the Global South.

On 26 March, the Instituto Superior Miguel Torga (ISMT) held a day of debate dedicated to the analysis of social movements, human rights, and environmental justice. The event featured experts from Portugal and Brazil, promoting an exchange of academic perspectives on themes that structure contemporary society and professional practice within the social sciences.

During the sessions, speakers addressed the historical evolution of collective mobilisations and their relationship with the safeguarding of fundamental rights. The reflection extended to environmental justice, highlighting the importance of inclusive public policies and the need for a critical approach to the global challenges affecting the most vulnerable populations in both countries.

The meeting was also marked by a moment of recognition for the docente Maria Carmelita Yazbek, whose career is a benchmark in the field. Additionally, new literary and scientific works were launched, aiming to strengthen the theoretical and practical foundations of Social Work in the context of the Global South, consolidating ISMT’s commitment to knowledge production and international debate.
