Alunos do ISMT em visita de estudo à Licor Beirão

On 26 November 2024, students from the Human Resources Management and Management courses at Instituto Superior Miguel Torga (ISMT) took part in a study visit to the facilities of the emblematic Licor Beirão company in Lousã. The initiative was organised as part of the Transversal Competencies for Professional Excellence curricular unit with the aim of complementing theoretical learning with practical experience.

Accompanied by lecturers Bruno Cordeiro and Fátima Ney Matos, the students were welcomed by the Licor Beirão team, who provided an engaging and educational experience. The visit included a session with the Human Resources Director, where the students had the opportunity to learn about people management practices and the organisational strategies that make Licor Beirão a benchmark in the sector. Afterwards, they had a guided tour of the facilities, led by Mr José Redondo, the company's owner and son of the founder, Mr José Carranca Redondo, a central figure in the history of this emblematic brand. During the visit, Mr José Redondo shared with the students the company's vision and the experience of leading such an iconic legacy of Portuguese culture.

The experience was further enriched with a coffee break, during which the students were able to taste Licor Beirão products, reinforcing their bond with the brand. This visit not only allowed the students to apply the knowledge they had acquired in the classroom, but also broadened their understanding of the challenges and opportunities of the labour market.

Licor Beirão, a true icon of Portugal, is produced by the family-run company J. Carranca Redondo, Lda, which was officially founded in 1940.
However, its history dates back to the 19th century, when the liqueur began to be made in a pharmacy in Lousã.The name ‘Licor Beirão’ was adopted in 1929 in honour of the 2nd Beirão Congress, held in Castelo Branco.

Licor Beirão is produced at Quinta do Meiral in Lousã, where quality is strictly controlled. The unique recipe combines 13 plants, seeds and aromatic spices, many of which are grown on the farm itself, which guarantees the authenticity and unmistakable flavour of this drink.

Today, Licor Beirão is an internationally recognised product, present in more than 70 countries. Production continues to be overseen by the Redondo family, with Mr José Redondo, son of founder José Carranca Redondo, heading up the company. This liqueur is not just a drink, but also a versatile ingredient in cocktails and culinary recipes.

The brand is an example of tradition and innovation, maintaining its legacy while adapting to new consumer trends. Licor Beirão continues to be one of the biggest exports in Portugal's alcoholic drinks industry.
