The Miguel Torga Higher Institute (ISMT) was represented at the 12th MIIS Conference - Intercultural Mediation and Social Intervention, held on 5 and 6 December 2024 in Leiria, under the theme ‘50 years of 25 April: transitions and transformations’.
Professor Manuel Menezes presented the paper ‘The social dimension of local government in the 50 years since April’, highlighting the role of local government in promoting the well-being of the population and the contribution of Social Work to community development. The research emphasised how, over five decades, local authorities have played an essential role in implementing inclusive social policies and improving the living conditions of residents.
The 12th Intercultural Mediation and Social Intervention Conference, dedicated this year to the impact of the social and cultural transformations that began with the April Revolution, featured thematic panels, round tables and papers that explored the multiple dimensions of social change in Portugal over the last 50 years.
ISMT's presence reaffirms the institution's commitment to research and social intervention, contributing to reflections on central themes in contemporary Portuguese society.
