ISMT and APPACDM Coimbra promote a series of sessions on valuing difference

2026-04-14

On 14 April, ISMT launches the “Let’s talk about…” initiative, a series of talks dedicated to demystifying disability and presenting social responses.

The Miguel Torga Higher Institute (ISMT), in partnership with APPACDM Coimbra, is launching the “Let’s talk about…” session cycle. The first session, scheduled for 14 April at 17:30 in Room 2 of the Rua Gomes Freire Building, will focus on Intellectual Disability. This initiative results from the cooperation protocol established between both institutions on 3 March.

The programme for the opening session includes a presentation by ISMT lecturer Sandra Neves Henriques, titled “Beyond labels: understanding Intellectual Developmental Disorder”. The panel also features António Martins, a psychologist from APPACDM Coimbra, speaking on "Living with intellectual disability", and President Helena Albuquerque, who will analyse the existing responses within Portuguese society for this population.

The “Let’s talk about…” initiative is designed as a space for dialogue and clarification, based on real-life testimonies and the deconstruction of stigmas associated with disability. In addition to APPACDM, the cycle will involve collaboration with APPDA Coimbra, APCC, and ACAPO, running until June with sessions dedicated to Autism, Cerebral Palsy, and Visual Impairment.

Session Schedule:
🗓️ April 14th - Intellectual Disability
🗓️ April 28th - Autism
🗓️ May 19th - Cerebral Palsy
🗓️ June 2nd - Visual Impairment
