The ISMT hosted the start of the post-doctoral activities of Terçalia Suassuna Vaz Lira and Alessandra Ximenes da Silva, teaching staff members from the Post-Graduate Programme in Social Work of the State University of Paraíba, in Brazil.

The Instituto Superior Miguel Torga (ISMT) hosted the start of the post-doctoral activities of Terçalia Suassuna Vaz Lira and Alessandra Ximenes da Silva, teaching staff members from the Post-Graduate Programme in Social Work (PPGSS) of the State University of Paraíba (UEPB), in Brazil. The research, which began on 3 June, is supervised by the ISMT teaching staff member, Maria Rosa Tomé, and is part of a collaborative consortium between Portuguese and Brazilian higher education institutions.

The work of the two teaching staff members is part of the research project "Articulations and challenges of Brazilian researchers in knowledge production and international cooperation in the Social and Human Sciences at Portuguese universities". The programme focuses on identifying academic dynamics and sharing theoretical frameworks between the two countries.

The research initiative was approved and funded by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development of Brazil (CNPq), under Public Call MCTI/CNPq No. 16/2024. The overall coordination of the project is the responsibility of the teaching staff member Raquel Cavalcante Soares, affiliated with the Post-Graduate Programme in Social Work of the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE). The structured coordination between the two parties consolidates an ongoing working network, since the teaching staff member Raquel Cavalcante Soares completed her own post-doctoral studies at ISMT, also under the supervision of the teaching staff member Maria Rosa Tomé.

Alongside ISMT, the network of partners of the State University of Paraíba (UEPB) in this project in Portugal includes other institutions, namely the Universidade Aberta de Lisboa (UAb) and the Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (Iscte-IUL).

Regarding the reception of these teaching staff members on campus, the ISMT teaching staff member, Maria Rosa Tomé, frames the objectives of the initiative: "The development of these activities at ISMT consolidates the institutional relations already established and allows for the continuity of a shared research agenda. Transnational collaboration in the area of Social and Human Sciences contributes to a comparative approach to the social and formative realities of both countries."
