On the first day of classes, the Students’ Association of Instituto Superior Miguel Torga (AEISMT) held today, 15 September, as part of the 2025 Academic Reception and Integration Programme, the Welcome Session for new students.

In his speech, the President of the Students’ Association, Rui Morais, called for active involvement in academic and associative life: “We want you by our side to live every moment! Your School, your spirit, your academic family!” He also highlighted that at ISMT one finds “friendship, identity, learning, history, experiences, activities, social life… everything that unites us is here, especially you!”

In his address, the President of the Board of Directors, Manuel Castelo Branco, stressed that the new students “made the right choice”, but also reminded them of the great challenges ahead. He reinforced that the entire academic community is ready to support them: “Do not hesitate to ask for help, we are here for you.” He further emphasised that, by joining ISMT, they become part of a School integrated in the Intermunicipal Community of the Coimbra Region (CIM-RC), involving 19 municipalities, and that they are “in the heart of Coimbra, a true student city.”

The President of the Pedagogical Council, Ilda Massano Cardoso, addressed the new students with a message of encouragement and hope: “We wish you great success on this journey, which will be one of discovery and innovation!” challenging them to fully embrace their academic experience.

The Student Ombudsman, Bruno Cordeiro, reminded students that his role is to defend and promote their rights, ensuring that everyone feels supported and listened to throughout their academic journey.

The session also included a special welcome message to Erasmus+ international students. Tomorrow, 16 September, the Welcome Session will take place.

With this initiative, ISMT opens its doors to another academic year marked by integration, growth, and community identity. Applications remain open for short courses, postgraduate programmes, and available places in the 1st and 2nd study cycles.
