The ISMT faculty member took part in initiatives dedicated to the psychology of reproduction and infertility support throughout the months of April and May.
The faculty member of the Instituto Superior Miguel Torga (ISMT), Ana Galhardo, participated in a series of scientific events focused on the theme of infertility and the neuropsychological development associated with reproduction. The faculty member's presence at these gatherings reflects the institution's commitment to the dissemination of science and the sharing of specialised knowledge, which are structural areas for the academic development of the ISMT student community.
The schedule of participations began on the 23rd of April at the Centro Cultural de Belém (CCB) in Lisbon, where the faculty member joined a working session as part of the "Tackling Infertility" event. Later, on the 8th and 9th of May, she attended the XL Jornadas de Estudos da Reprodução, in Alcobaça. At this event, Ana Galhardo was a speaker for "Course 4 | The Role of Psychologists in Gamete Donation", where she presented a paper entitled "Donation through the eyes of the donors", addressing the emotional aspects surrounding the donation process.
To conclude the cycle, on the 20th of May, the faculty member led an informal discussion at the Coimbra edition of the "Pint of Science" festival. Under the theme "I was born this way: neurodevelopment and infertility support", the public session focused on the psychological distress frequently caused by infertility diagnoses and the demands of medical treatments. During the gathering, it was emphasised that emotions such as anxiety, fear, or sadness are natural, and highlights were given to the Mindfulness-Based Programme for Infertility (MBPI), designed to promote emotional care through greater awareness, acceptance, and compassion.
