The Instituto Superior Miguel Torga will promote on January 11, 2024 at 6:15 pm the 1st Cycle of Conferences of its new Postgraduate Course in Research and Security Against Catastrophes, Crises and Accidents with the title “Safe Sea, Prosperous Nation: a Holistic Approach and Innovative in Maritime Security”.
The Guest Speaker is Henrique Gouveia e Melo, Chief of Staff of the Navy.
The opening of the conference will feature Luís Marinho, President of ISMT, moderation will be by Noémia Salgado Cunha, Postgraduate Scientific Coordinator and comments will be made by Margarida Dias, Postgraduate Professor and Forensic Psychologist (INMLCF).
Henrique Gouveia e Melo
Admiral Henrique Gouveia e Melo, among several illustrious roles throughout his life, from January 12, 2017 to January 14, 2020, served as Naval Commander, and for two years of this same period, from September 19, From 2017 to September 19, 2019, he served as Commander of EUROMARFOR.
On January 17, 2020, he took office as Deputy for Planning and Coordination of the General Staff of the Armed Forces. A position he held until taking office as Chief of Staff of the Navy. While performing this role, he was also appointed, on February 3, 2021, coordinator of the Task Force for Vaccination against Covid-19. He took office as Chief of Staff of the Navy and National Maritime Authority on December 27, 2021, the date on which he was promoted to admiral.

The new Postgraduate Course in Research and Safety Against Catastrophes, Crises and Accidents at Instituto Superior Miguel Torga will provide future experts with the necessary scientific and technical knowledge and skills, supported by the best multidisciplinary and multi-institutional safety and research practices, which allow them to effectively and appropriately carry out all safety and incident investigation procedures, such as those set out in the course presentation, visible on the ISMT website.
