ISMT hosts the "Bica pela Europa" public session on 40 years of Portugal in the European Union
On 18 May, the Instituto Superior Miguel Torga (ISMT) hosted the "Bica pela Europa" gathering at its facilities. The initiative was carried out in partnership with EUROPE DIRECT Região de Coimbra e de Leiria and focused on marking the 40 years of Portugal's accession to the European Union, analysing the challenges of the European future from a local perspective.
The public session began with an address by Paula Silvestre, Manager of EUROPE DIRECT Região de Coimbra e de Leiria, who set the context for the event. The programme included the presentation of the book “E se Falássemos da Europa?”, authored by former MEP Margarida Marques, sparking the participants' interest in current political and institutional affairs.
Following the presentation of the literary work, a roundtable took place featuring the author and Manuel Castelo Branco, President of the ISMT Board of Directors. The debate, moderated by journalist António Alves, delved into reflections on citizenship, youth participation, and democracy. The occasion provided a participatory dialogue between the speakers and the audience, highlighting the role of educational institutions in discussing the guidelines of the European space.
