During the ceremony, Joaquim de Sousa, Ombudsman of Misericórdia - Obra da Figueira, highlighted the importance of this relationship, saying that Manuel Castelo Branco ‘has been a permanent friend with a recognised capacity for dialogue’ and that the tribute paid is the result of recognition ‘for what he does and for who he is’.

For his part, Manuel Castelo Branco, Chairman of the ISMT Board of Directors, expressed his gratitude, saying that ‘the gratitude is not for me, but for Joaquim de Sousa and Misericórdia for the altruistic work they do every day in favour of those most in need’. He also emphasised the friendship that unites them, recalling that the link was Joaquim Gil.
