The Instituto Superior Miguel Torga (ISMT) organises the conference "Emergency Communication in Disaster Contexts" on the 28th of May 2026, at 17:30. The session takes place at the institute's premises, located at Largo da Cruz de Celas, n.º 1, in Coimbra. The event is aimed at journalists and communicators operating in the Coimbra Metropolitan Region, and is also open to the student community.
The initiative promotes reflection and the sharing of perspectives on the role of the media in emergency, disaster, and civil protection situations. The programme focuses on the analysis of the constraints of public information, the presentation of institutional coordination dynamics, and the debate surrounding communicational responsibility in crisis contexts, directly involving field agents and media professionals.
The panel of speakers includes the presence of José Veríssimo, Mayor of Montemor-o-Velho; Rui Fernandes, Mayor of Soure; Sérgio Soares, from Agência Lusa; Miguel Ângelo, from SIC; Andreia Rodrigues, Coimbra Civil Protection Coordinator; and Nuno Seixas Pereira, 2nd Sub-Regional Commander for Emergency and Civil Protection of the Coimbra Region. The realisation of this session reflects the continuous connection to society of the ISMT, which is owned by the 19 Municipalities that are part of the Intermunicipal Community of the Coimbra Metropolitan Region.
