ISMT hosts debate on the impacts of polarisation and radicalisation in public discourse
The Instituto Superior Miguel Torga (ISMT) will host, on February 19th at 2:30 PM, a debate titled "Polarisation, Radicalisation, and Transformations of Public Discourse(s): Impacts on Communication, Journalism, and Society". The event will take place in room BASL6, at the Rua Bernardo de Albuquerque facilities, offering a critical reflection on the communication dynamics shaping contemporary times.
The session will be opened by Manuel Castelo-Branco, President of the Board of Directors of ISMT, and will bring together a panel of experts to discuss the challenges posed by increasing ideological polarisation. Confirmed speakers include faculty members Bruno Paixão and Manuel Menezes, specialists in Communication Sciences and Social Work, respectively, alongside communication manager Martha Mendes. The moderation of the debate will be led by Law faculty member Ana Elisabete Ferreira.
This initiative is organised by the ISMT Ethics Committee in partnership with República do Direito – Coimbra Legal Association. The meeting aims to analyse how transformations in public discourse affect not only the practice of journalism and communication management but also the democratic framework and social cohesion, being open to the academic community and the interested public.
