The Miguel Torga Higher Institute (ISMT) presented its training offer in the city of Cantanhede on Thursday 23 January, with the aim of publicising available courses, highlighting higher education opportunities and bringing the institution closer to the population.
‘We belong to the Coimbra Region Intermunicipal Community (CIM), made up of 19 municipalities. We are a higher education institution equivalent to the others in terms of undergraduate and master's degrees. However, there is one aspect that makes us unique, both in Coimbra and in the rest of the country: we are a school owned by the municipal councils of the Coimbra Region CIM. This uniqueness represents a huge advantage, but it also imposes on us an extended set of obligations and duties. These include the commitment to meet the needs of the living forces in each of the municipalities,’ emphasised the chairman of the ISMT board, Manuel Castelo Branco.
ISMT offers a wide range of training options, with degrees in diverse areas such as Communication Design, Multimedia, Journalism, Business Communication, Entrepreneurship, Management, Human Resources Management, Psychology, Social Work and Computer Science.
The institute also offers specialised master's degrees in Clinical Psychology and Social Work.
As far as postgraduate courses are concerned, the study plans include Assessment and Intervention with Families in Crisis, Risk and Danger, Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, Intervention with Alzheimer's and Other Dementia Patients and Research and Security against Disasters, Crises and Accidents.
The ISMT wants to develop short courses that respond to the needs and specificities of the area. In this context, the session was also used to gather suggestions and identify priority themes that could contribute to the development of practical and technical skills in line with the realities and challenges of the region.
‘This initiative is extremely important for us as a municipality and member of the CIM. I congratulate the board on the proactive approach with which they have conducted this work. For coming to the field, presenting proposals and listening to the community,’ emphasised the mayor of Cantanhede, Helena Teodósio.
The mayor expressed her willingness to engage in dialogue, negotiate and establish an effective bridge between the population, the municipality and the ISMT, reinforcing ‘collaboration in favour of local development’.
