Learning Outcomes

-    Give the students a profound knowledge about Ethics and Codes of Conduct in general and, specifically, in Psychology contexts.
-    Encourage the students to develop the capacity to comprehend and critically analyse the Portuguese codes that regulate psychology professionals, specially, the Code of Ethics.
-    Develop in the students the hability to examine, reflect and decide according to ethical principles when confronted with specific situations in psychology contexts.

Study Program

1.    Ethics of human action: philosophical and psychological background.
Delimitation of the concepts of ‘ethics’, ‘moral’, ‘code of conduct’ and ‘ethical dilemma’.
2.    The Deontological Code of the Portuguese Psychologists Order:
2.1.    Its origins.
2.2.    Your current structure.
2.3.    Critical analysis of its main and specific principles.
3.    Ethics in the different contexts of psychology:
3.1.    Psychological assessment.
3.2.    Clinical psychology.
3.3.    Forensic psychology.
3.4.    Research in psychology.
3.5.    Sport psychology.
4.    The process of ethical decision-making in psychology.
5.    Ethical considerations and guidelines in intervention and research with special populations: minorities, risk groups, vulnerable people.
6.    Presentation and discussion of practical cases about ethical dilemmas/ problems in Psychology.
